Bio Brief
Dr. Xiuzhi Susan Sun is a University Distinguished Professor of Grain Science and affiliated in Biological and Agricultural Engineering at Kansas State University.  She is specialized in plant protein and lipids structure, modification, and functional properties at monomer and polymer levels, 3D peptide hydrogels structure and adhesion for life science applications, biobased adhesives, resins, coatings for environmental safe materials. She also has solid research experience in poly(lactic acids) and its nanocomposites; thermal, mechanical, and rheological properties of biopolymers.  She is the author and co-author of more than150 referee journal articles and holds 11 patents. She co-authored a book “Biobased Polymers and Composite”.  She is currently a member of the AAAS, ACS, ASBAE, BEPS, and The Scientific Research Society Sigma Xi.  She is the recipient of Lifetime Achievement Award from BEPS in 2012, the Higuchi-KU Endowment Research Achievement Award in 2011, Sigma Xi Outstanding Senior Scientist Award in 2007. She was appointed as the USDA NIFA Technical Panel Manager of Biobased Products and Bioenergy in 2004 and 2005.  She received Master and B.Sc from Northeast Agriculture University, Harbin, China. She received her Ph.D. in Agriculture and Biological Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, IL USA.
